The Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) has announced a new initiative to help non-EEA nationals travel confidently this Christmas, even amidst delays in Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card processing.
Key Update: Processing Backlog
If you’ve recently completed your IRP registration, please allow approximately two weeks to receive your IRP card by post. To address this delay, the Minister for Justice has issued a Travel Confirmation Notice to support eligible individuals with expired IRP cards.
How It Works
From 2 December 2024 to 31 January 2025, you can travel internationally with the following:
- Your recently expired IRP card.
- A printed copy of the Travel Confirmation Notice.
- Proof of your renewal application:
- Email confirmation showing the date of application.
- A receipt of application detailing the application date and OREG number.
This means you can visit family and friends during the holiday season without stress caused by processing delays.
Important Things to Know
- The Travel Confirmation Notice is only valid until 31 January 2025.
- Airlines and immigration authorities may request these documents during travel, so ensure you carry them.
- If you’re transiting through a third country, check their immigration and visa requirements as this notice only applies to re-entering Ireland.
- If your current permission expired before you applied for renewal, this notice will not apply.
